I am back from WisCon and trying to get back into the groove that is my life, but I need to take a moment for some fun and joy, so I’m going to tell you all about Think Galacticon, because I think it’s a great convention put on by great people (full disclosure: I'm on the concom) and I’m really looking forward to it. TGcon is so great in fact, that after the last TGcon, there was no fail! Yep, that’s right, there was no fail! I wish I could say that about all conventions I go to, but…

Never mind--back to the joy!

[info]think_galactic , a Chicago-based reading group that seeks to discuss speculative fiction from a radical left perspective, is hosting our second Think Galacticon this June 26-28!

Think Galacticon is a literary science fiction convention where attendees can discuss all kinds of speculative fiction in an intelligent, engaging, and fun fashion. There will be multiple tracks of programming that seek to expand the boundaries of typical discussions. We will explore issues of oppressive hierarchies, confronting topics of race, gender, sexuality, class, the environment and more. Our guests are Eleanor Arnason, a science fiction author; and Josh MacPhee, an artist, activist, and sci-fi fan.

Our initial list of panels and events is available online at http://www.thinkgalactic.org/programming.htm
We are still taking suggestions for programming, so if you have an idea, please e-mail programming@thinkgalactic.org or comment on our LJ. Also let us know if you would like to participate on panels (your ideas or someone else’s).

And if you register before June 12, you get $5 off the at the door rate. Advance registrations help us match panelists and panels, and plan other convention activities, so feel free to check out our registration page at http://www.thinkgalactic.org/registration.htm

We have a great hotel-the newly renovated Blackstone Hotel at 636 South Michigan Ave. It is conveniently located close to Roosevelt University's Auditorium Building (430 S Michigan Ave.) where the convention will be held, and is just across the street from Grant Park. Reservations must be made by June 12 to get the group rate. Hotel contact information may be found at the bottom of our registration page.

I hope to see lots of smart, interesting, fun, funny people at this year's TGcon!

Great to meet you at WisCon!

Greetings from Kat--Thanks for all your illuminating comments re race and the environmental movements on Sunday night...Since I know you may be feeling low about California's lame decision yesterday I thought I'd send you a link. Take heart!
